Hi guys, Jason here. Those of you who know me, know I LOVE scuba diving, but don’t get to do it nearly often enough! And, as a cinematographer, I’d have to say the dream shoot would be one that takes place underwater.

When I happened upon some of Eve Hazelton’s work doing research for another project, I discovered a fantastic making-of video for their film series, “The Underwater Realm.” Their challenge was to make a fairly small diving tank look like the infinite ocean floor. What’s more— they actually discovered that old-school techniques worked better that Lucas-era green-screening, rotoscoping and modern day VFX.

Their results were stunning.

Now to dust off my wet suit and put some of these techniques into action. I wonder if the UK pool will let me add clouding agents and sand?
